What is True Love Waits?
True
Love Waits (TLW) is an international movement with a focus on promoting
the ideals of chastity and saving the gift of sex for marriage.
This is achieved primarily through education and support.
The movement originally started in the United States of America
in the early 1990's with the concept of pledge cards. Soon after it
spread throughout the world, including outstanding success in Uganda
where there was a desperate situation due to the spread of HIV /
AIDS.
The movements usually exist as groups of volunteers who organise
various presentations, often to schools and youth groups. They also
occasionally organise or participate in events to promote chastity
on a public level, such as the TLW rally in Sydney in 2002 and an
event at the recent 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Our movement in Western Australia started at the end of 2000 (see
the History in WA page) and since that time has been active in
presenting at schools, youth groups and organizing our monthly open
sessions and our annual pledge ceremonies.
In addition to Western Australia, we are also aware of groups in
New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia. Miriam
Ziegelmann of South Australia is a central point of contact for TLW
in Australia.
What is Chastity?
Chastity is an attitude of respect for our sexuality. It purifies
our heart so we desire only what is good, right and loving for
others and ourselves in regard to sexuality. Hence it also affects
our actions; what we do and don't do in response to our feelings and
sexual instincts.
Chastity is always at the service of love and it is the lifestyle
that God calls us to live. This is the way of living that leads us
to experience real love and lasting happiness in our lives.
Promoting this way of living is what True Love Waits is all
about.
