What are Open Sessions?

TLW holds an Open Session evening once a month. TLW Open Sessions are meetings designed to help young people in Perth learn more about chastity and the true meaning of sexuality, while also providing an opportunity for socialising and fellowship.

The main part of the evening is a generally a presentation on a topic related to the true meaning of sexuality. This is generally run by TLW core team members or a guest speaker and goes for approximately 1 - 1 ˝ hours, followed by discussion and supper afterwards.

We aim to choose topics that deepen our understanding of the true meaning of sexuality while also being practical and relevant to us, thereby helping us to live the truth in our lives. Some previous topics we have had at Open Sessions include modesty, the dignity of the human person, pornography / masturbation and natural family planning. Most open sessions evenings are centred around a presentation; however we also have workshops, videos and even debates from time to time.

Open Sessions begin at 7:30pm and are held on the 4th Monday of every month at the Catholic Pastoral Centre, 40 Mary St, Highgate. Open Sessions are for anyone interesting in learning more about the true meaning of sexuality.

If you're keen to come along but you've never been to one before or don't know anyone else going, feel free to contact us to let us know you're coming. We'll make sure we look out for you on the night.

Next Open Session

The next Open Session will be on Monday 28h of June 2010:

Understanding the Opposite Sex
“…male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

Are you ever bemused by the other gender? Have you ever wondered how can we possibly become “one flesh” when we are so different? The man vs woman debate is a battle of the sexes that has been raging for centuries. Are our differences just physical? Or are they mental, emotional, social, and spiritual too? Did God intend for us to be this way or is it a product of our culture?

In this open session we’ll be viewing a talk that reveals some surprising truths about human physiology and neurology that probably influence us more than we thought! Dr Philip Mango is a captivating and funny speaker (check him out on YouTube) who has devoted his life to scientific study of people - in light of Catholic teachings.

This very entertaining talk was one of the favourites given at the first National Catholic Singles Conference (Denver, 2005). Dr Philip Mango is a licensed psychotherapist with 30 years of experience doing individual, premarital and marital therapy. He is the director of St. Michael's Institute for the Psychological Sciences and a visiting professor at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family.

The evening will start at 7:30pm at Catholic Pastoral Centre, 40A Mary St, Highgate (school parking lot off Harold St)
