Pledge Cards
Many people who support the ideals of TLW have signed a pledge
card as a commitment and witness to a life of chastity.
The idea of the pledge card was formed by Richard Ross, a youth
worker in the USA who founded TLW in the early 1990s. This was in
response to the misconception that not many young people believed in
chastity or were saving themselves for marriage.
Since then, over 1.5 million pledges have been recorded worldwide
and it continues to grow. Over 15,000 pledges have been made in
Australia.
The TLW pledge states:
'By the grace of God and believing that true love waits, I make a
pledge to God, myself, my family, my future spouse and my future
children to be sexually pure from this day until I enter marriage.'

Why do I need to sign a pledge card?
True Love Waits Catholic WA believes the pledge cards are
important for at least two reasons.
Firstly, they help people make a decision on their stance for
chastity. Are you definitely for or against chastity? Or would you
prefer to sit on the fence in an uncommitted state? Is there any
situation in the future you can think of where you are not going to
act in a chaste manner? Confronting the issue and forming an opinion
for ourselves now will help us to be more confident later when we're
challenged on our values or in moments of temptation.
The other important reason for pledge cards is the powerful
witness they give to others. The vast numbers of signed pledge cards
in archives throughout the world are a testimony to the number of
other young people who are committed to a life of chastity. Taking
the firm stance of signing a pledge card can be a source of
inspiration to those around you who are confused with the
contradicting messages the world offers on this subject.
Therefore TLW Catholic WA is very supportive of the pledge card
concept and we encourage anyone who believes in the ideals of
chastity and saving the gift of sex for marriage to make this
commitment by signing a pledge card.
When can I sign a pledge card?
Most people make the pledge at our annual pledge ceremony, held
in December each year. This provides you with an opportunity to make
the pledge during Mass along with other people.
This is also usually the last TLW event of the year, so it's
often a combined pledge ceremony and thanksgiving evening. It
involves a short presentation by TLW on the team's activities of the
year, a presentation on the pledge card concept and Mass during
which people can sign the card and make the pledge with others. This
is followed by supper and socialising afterwards. We'll provide more
details of this year's pledge ceremony on this site closer to the
time.
You can however make the pledge anytime. If you believe in
chastity and you're keen to make the pledge now, simply contact us
and we'll be happy to give you a pledge card to sign.
