Introduction to the Theology of the Body
Starts on 24th August 7-10pm at St Mary's Parish Centre, Leederville
Join the St Mary's, St Bernadette's, and St Paul's parish youth groups to embark on a journey to discover God's plan for Humanity.
The Theology of the Body is Pope John Paul II's integrated vision of the human person - body, soul, and spirit. As he explains, the physical human body has a specific meaning and is capable of revealing answers regarding fundamental questions about us and our lives:
- Is there a real purpose to life and if so, what is it?
- Why were we created male and female? Does it really matter if we are one sex or another?
- Why were man and woman called to communion from the beginning? What does the marital union of a man and woman say to us about God and his plan for our lives?
- What is the purpose of the married and celibate vocations?
- What exactly is "Love"?
- Is it truly possible to be pure of heart?
All of these questions and many more are answered in Pope John Paul II's 129 Wednesday audiences, which were given between the years 1979 and 1984. His reflections are based on Scripture (especially the Gospels, St. Paul and the Book of Genesis), and contain a vision of the human person truly worthy of man. John Paul II discusses who man was in the beginning, who he is now (after original sin), and who he will be in the age to come. He then applies this message to the vocations of marriage and celibacy, in preparation for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Understanding the Opposite Sex
Monday 28th April 7:30-9:30pm at Catholic Pastoral Centre
Are you ever bemused by the other gender? Have you ever wondered how can we possibly become “one flesh” when we are so different? The man vs woman debate is a battle of the sexes that has been raging for centuries. Are our differences just physical? Or are they mental, emotional, social, and spiritual too? Did God intend for us to be this way or is it a product of our culture?
In this open session we’ll be viewing a talk that reveals some surprising truths about human physiology and neurology that probably influence us more than we thought! The speaker, Dr Philip Mango is a captivating and funny speaker (check him out on YouTube) who has devoted his life to scientific study of people - in light of Catholic teachings.

Natural Family Planning
Monday 19th April 7:30-9pm at Catholic Pastoral Centre
We live in a culture where contraception has, for many, changed the meaning of sex. In just a few decades, this has had a profound effect on marriages, families, and society. The Catholic Church is one of the few remaining institutions to insist that contraception is wrong, and predicted much of the damage that hindsight now reveals.
As the science of contraception has advanced, so has Natural Family Planning (NFP), to the point where it is comparable or better than contraceptives. This informative and interesting open session will enlighten that NFP is not just a clinical tool for achieving or avoiding a pregnancy, but a lifestyle and approach which better expresses the authentic love of Christ.

Reflect with speakers Paul Stokes and James Chua and be inspired, and supported, to rediscover your own uniqueness and inner direction. You will begin a journey which will continually help you pack more of the REAL YOU into every day of your life.
